There’s no such thing as The Belgian Soundtrack. This compilation is a passion project. It brings together some of the best soundtracks with an obvious or hidden Belgian connection, from the early sixties till the late seventies. From obscure local composers to world renowned musicians playing on Hollywood scores. With every now and then an international big shot writing music for a Belgian film.
The Belgian Soundtrack happened to us. One day, former filmjournalist Jan Temmerman gave us a call. “Are you interested in some vintage soundtrack albums? I’m cleaning up my attic.” The harvest: 650 Long Players, mainly titles we had never heard of. It quickly became our quest to listen to all of them, 29.250 minutes long. That’s like watching the original Star Wars trilogy 78 times.
This project became an investigation out of curiosity. We found dozens of - to us - unknown gems. Researched some composers and musicians unknown to us. And saw way too many ambiguous films. Lots of (un)necessary nudity, we never could imagine existed. The result is The Belgian Soundtrack. A carefully selected collection of funky, melodic and uplifting tracks. All made for the big screen. All with a surprising, Belgian connection.
The audience is listening!
